Nakuru Town East Parliamentary aspirant Wakili Boniface Githinji Ndumia has condemned the recent killings witnessed in Bondeni, Kivumbini and Lumumba estates.
He pointed out that he learnt with great horror of the senseless killings of 3 young men of Bondeni, Kivumbini and, Lumumba Estates.
This, he attributed to the resurgence of gang fights involving the so – branded Confirmed youth Groups.
According to Wakili Ndumia, this is a situation which calls for an extremely urgent attention of all the State Agencies involved in Criminal Justice system – to firmly and expeditiously quell these fights and the simmering tensions in these neighbourhoods due to this resurgence in the criminal gangs and the gang killings/activities.
In an official statement, Wakili Ndumia was categorical that this acts threaten to go full blown if unchecked due to revenge attacks by the groups on each other.
“Whereas I did pledge to work with all the non-criminal youth groups – including the reformed groups in our various Estates- in mentorship and Empowerment programmes, I strongly condemn these senseless killings and, do call for firm and decisive action against these criminal gangs,” he said.
He suggests various measures including subjecting those involved to the criminal justice system- but this without a generalised criminalisation of the youth population of NTE in the process.
He revealed that such criminal gangs are in part the workings of political class – deliberate or by default- and at any rate is an indictment of an uncaring leadership that has continued to ignore the plight of our youths – including the increased cases of unemployment and/or dearth of Empowerment programmes for youths.
According to Wakili Ndumia, some have sustained such groups for their own political purposes for including terrorising their political opponents and hostile residents and equally a conniving law enforcement Team.
He called for holistic approach towards addressing the same.
“It is time, a holistic approach was taken to bring to a definite end the existence or thriving of such criminal groups within NTE to ensure that our youths don’t needlessly end up dead /or in jails: and, that the residents of NTE live securely within their homes and streets,” he concluded.
