Unionist Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity has faulted the Kenyan government over low pay for Kenya Army personnel.
In a Press Release on Sunday August 18, 2024, Dr. Kinity pointed out that among the Kenya army, the Kenya Civil servants, the Kenya police, the Kenya teachers, and the Kenya Members of Parliament, the Kenya Army personnel are the most lowly paid workers.
He revealed that the minimum salary of a Kenya member of Parliament is more than 100 times the minimum salary of an army officer.
At the same time, Dr. Kinity noted that the minimum salary of a teacher is more than three times the minimum salary of an army officer, while the minimum salary of a police officer is slightly three times more than the salary of an army officer.
According to Kinity, the minimum salary of a civil servant is two times the minimum salary of an army officer.
He wondered why the Kenya army personnel are so neglected in Kenya, hence called on Kenyan leaders to respect the Military.
“Why are they so lowly paid? Do the Kenyan leaders think that the high cost of living in Kenya do not affect the Kenya Army personnel and their families, or do they think the army officers and their families live completely different lives from other Kenyans? It is time for change. It is time to treat the Kenya Army personnel like every other Kenyan worker,” he stated.
Dr. Kinity pointed out that the army officers sacrifice to defend the nation at all costs.
He questioned why the Kenya police should be earning 3 times more pay than the Kenya Army.
Dr. Kinity says this is only happening because of corruption of looting public funds as well as lack of Representation of the Kenya Army personnel by a union and the discipline in the army.
“Kenyan leaders have been taking advantage of the lack of representation of the Kenya army personnel by a union and the discipline in the army, which silence the army officers from demanding their rights and therefore pave way for the Kenyan leaders to be on looting spree of the public funds that would be used to increase the salaries of the Kenya Army personnel and to create jobs for the Kenyan youth,” he stated.
Dr. Kinity called on Kenyans of goodwill to continue advocating in ensuring such inequalities are addressed.
