Uhuru to make final decision on church re-opening

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to make the final decision on when places of worship will be reopened .

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has today led his cabinet colleagues in charge of health and education in meeting religious leaders who presented a proposed protocol towards the reopening of churches.

During the meeting the religious leaders presented the protocols which will be presented to the President for consideration.

During the Madaraka day celebrations, President Kenyatta directed CS Matiang’i to meet religious leaders with the aim of chatting a way forward in regards to reopening of places of worship.

Religious leaders have been calling for the reopening of worship places saying that they are ready and have the capacity to put in place measures to help in controlling the spread of corona virus.

Among the proposals by church leaders include, allowing a limited number of worshipers in each service, installation of hand washing equipment, provision of sanitizers among others.

There has been varied views among Kenyans on whether churches should be reopened in the wake of increasing cases of corona virus infections.

While some are arguing that  places of worship should be opened to allow Kenyans access spiritual nourishment,others are opposed to the reopening saying that the move will worsen an already bad situation.
