TEMBEA NAKURU: Did you know Nakuru has an estate called ‘Jodys’ on your way to Mzee Wanyama?

Nakuru is known for some funny names of Estates such as Mzee Wanyama, Kisulisuli, Abongoloya just to mention but a few.
However, famousnakuru.co.ke has established another estate with a unique name.
This is none other than Jodys Estate just past Pipeline on your way to Mzee Wanyama.
The estate found in Nakuru East Ward, according to observation has grown and made a name for itself.
This is evident from the many times the name is mentioned whenever you board Mwaki Sacco matatus on your way to Mzee Wanyama and you will hear many shout ‘nishukishe hapo Jodys” which can be translated that drop me at Jodys.
But upon alighting, one has to walk about 100metres to reach Jodys centre- a place full of life during the day, and a few activities at night despite there being functional street lights.
A spot-check the centre haboured by the estate has numerous businesses from butcheries, Salons and Kinyozi, food outlets, gaming areas, shops as well as social amenities.
For the lovers of one bottle for the road, you cannot miss a joint to quench your thirst, infact one such premise bears the name of the estate.
And if you love boiled vichwa and Vilenje(heads and the likes of a cow boiled), then this is the place to be for with just sh 130, you will be satisfied with the service.
Here, everyone wakes up to work hard to ensure at the end of the day there is meal on the table as observed by famousnakuru.co.ke.
Perhaps the reason why there is an area within the estate stamped the name ‘Kaza Moyo basically translated ‘work hard’ despite the challenges.
The estate, however has no Police Post and has to rely on Pakawa Police station in Pipeline.
It has dispensaries but the nearest high level health facility is Mirugi Kariuki Sub county hospital.
St Veronica Catholic church-An outstation of St John’s Muguga Parish under Catholic Diocese of Nakuru is another facility that is well known within the estate.
The Jodys Estate is a cosmopolitan one but Kikuyus, Kambas, Kisiis and Luhyas take dominance.
But then what’s in a name?
Though it is not clear how this area became known as Jodys, however as per understanding Jodys is a military slang term for the person romantically involved with a soldier or service member’s partner while the service member is away.
Could this be the reason behind the name owing to the fact that Lanet Barracks is not far from the estate? Well that’s story for another day.
