Chief Francis Kariuki ‘Tweeting Chief’ laid to rest

The late Lanet Umoja Chief Francis Kariuki was on Wednesday laid to rest at his home in Githioro,Bahati sub county of Nakuru.

Chief Kariuki popularly known as the ‘Tweeting Chief’ passed on after a short illness on Tuesday the 20th of October 2020.

At the time of his death, Chief Kariuki was 55 years of age.

Born on 18th June 1965, he was a leader who believed in service delivery to hi people as far as matters administration are concerned.

He will be remembered for his transformation of the society through media platform by disseminating information that saw improved security in Lanet area.

It is the use of social media for good that earned him recognition locally and internationally.

Before joining the provincial administration, Kariuki worked as a teacher for 21 years. Until his death, he was a senior Chief for Lanet-Umoja location  in Nakuru North Sub-County. He leaves behinds a wife, two daughters and a son..

And every leader who stood to speak during his funeral service held at Lanet Umoja Primary on Wednesday termed the late a hero.

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui while noting that Nakuru County had lost a great leader, vowed to work with Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus Mbui to support the late Chief Kariuki’s wife and children.

“We will work with the county Commissioner towards supporting the widow and children of the late Chief Kariuki.” Said Kinyanjui.

Kinyanjui also using the opportunity to call on Nakuru residents to continue adhering to the COVID-19 containment measures.

He noted that the cases were on the rise raising an alarm.

“I also urged residents to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from contracting COVID-19 as the number of cases across the county and country continue to rise” he said.

According to the statistics, beds set aside for COVID-19 patients in most private hospitals in Nakuru are already full while about 80 percent beds in public isolation facilities are occupied.

It is for this reason that the county boss reminded residents to observe personal responsibility by observing prevention protocols issued by the Ministry of Health.

The funeral service was also attended by Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus Mbui, Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, Lanet Umoja MCA Josephat Waweru among other leaders.
