County on the spot for harassing Digital Taxi operators

Digital Taxi operators in Nakuru town have expressed their concerns over what they term is harassment by the county officials over parking.

Addressing media in Nakuru led by Laban Maloi(Manager Safiri Cabs) and Mark Njagi(CEO Wasili Cabs) ,they faulted the county government for harassing them along Kenyatta avenue as far as parking space is concerned.

According to the operators, the conflict began after the county government of Nakuru issued a directive that barred all branded vehicles from parking within CBD.

They says this is uncalled for as they were not served with any notice on the same, yet the county government has gone ahead to implement the directive and harass them.

“This is uncalled for and the county government of Nakuru has failed to listene to us” said the operators.

The matter has drawn the attention of Nakuru legislators led by Senator Susan Kihika who are now calling on the county government to have a dialogue with the operators whom majority are youths.

Senator Kihika faulting the county government for oppressing such youths who are making a living through job creation.

“We cannot be talking of becoming a city yet we are busy oppressing our youths who are creating jobs. That is impunity and corruption of the highest order which should not be tolerated” said Kihika.

Similar sentiments echoed by Bahati MP Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri and his Nakuru Town East counterpart David Gikaria.

The legislators stating that as representatives of the electorates they will take up the matter seriously and ensure there is dialogue between the digital taxis operators and the county government of Nakuru.

“We have taken up this matter seriously and we shall be following it up to ensure no more harassment of the digital taxi operators” said the legislators.

It should be noted that poor planning is one of the challenge facing Nakuru town even as it looks forward to becoming a city.
