Bodaboda Association vows to boost women riders

The Bodaboda safety Association of Kenya has vowed to support female operators venturing into the sector previously dominated by male gender.

National Chair and President of the Association Kevin Mubadi says there shall be a national summit for female riders in Nairobi towards empowering them.

Speaking in Nakuru on Saturday during a meeting for officials from all the 11 subcounties, Mubadi revealed that already there are 280 female operators in the country.

He added that as Association,they will continue to recognize the female riders and give them all the support they need.

“We shall support female riders fully through loans so that they can also transform their livelihoods” said Mubadi.

The move has been welcomed by female riders in Nakuru.

Led by Eunice Njeri,they say it will go a long way in addressing the stigma that has been there.

“The society should respect us for this is just like any other sector and as women we are capable” she said.

Mubadi also calling on Bodaboda Operators to work closely with police.

This ,he said will be made possible through the online registration launched recently.

Walter Mwania from Midrift HURINET working with police and Community to end Urban crime calling for need for operators to ensure no criminal amongst them.

“As citizens we have what we call Community Policing Committees that we can use to ensure our challenges are addressed” said Mwania.

Stephen Mwanda- an official from Nakuru West on his part lauding the move taken by Bodaboda Safety Association of Kenya.

He says unity is key in the sector towards addressing their challenges.
