Governor Lee,Natembeya differ over closure of bars

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui and Rift Valley Commissioner George Natembeya, seemed to differ on the decision to close bars and other entertainment places in the County over the corona virus outbreak.

On Tuesday Governor Kinyanjui had said that closure of bars and entertainment places in Nakuru was not necessary at the moment since the county had not reported any positive corona virus case.

He said that as much as the county was taking measure to stop the spread of the virus it was important to note that County still needs revenue to operate and offer other services to its people.

Kinyanjui added that he will only think of the option of closing down bars when the situation warrants.

But today(Thursday), Natembeya has ordered all bars and entertainment joints closed in what he terms as a precautionary measure against the spread of the corona virus.

Natembeya who is also the chair of the Regional corona virus emergence response committee ordered all County commissioners within the Rift Valley to enforce the order immediately.

He reiterated that human life was much more important than the revenue being generated to counties by the bars.

The order will be in force for 30 days after which a review will be carried out according to Natembeya.

The Regional Commissioner observed that bars were providing  grounds and an environment favorable for a possible corona virus spread.
