Farmers in Mau Narok ward in Njoro Sub-county have an opportunity to access subsidized fertilizer without extra cost following the intervention of Governor Susan Kihika.
Speaking at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic parish in Mau Narok, area MCA Hon. Dida Cyrus had raised concerns about middlemen who have been buying subsidized fertilizer and selling it to farmers at an exaggerated cost.
“We won’t allow our farmers to be exploited by brokers any more. The cost of the subsidized fertilizer is Kshs. 3,500 and they should not pay even a single extra coin,” said the Governor.
The Governor has thus instructed the Mau Narok ward administrator Davis Mwaura to work closely with the MCA to ensure that every farmer wanting to buy the subsidized fertilizer is able to access it.

Farmers will be required to pay for the fertilizer locally and the Ward Administrator working with the MCA will ensure that it is delivered. The County will provide trucks for delivery not only in Mau Narok but to the rest of the wards in Njoro Sub-county.
Mau Narok ward is an agricultural rich area and produces most of the carrots consumed around the country. The area also produces high quantities of green peas and potatoes. The ongoing drought brought about by erratic rainfall has however reduced production.
“It is unfortunate that although Nakuru has a high agriculture potential, we have been forced to give relief food. One of my top agendas is to empower farmers to ensure they get the subsidized fertilizer and other farm inputs. We shall also make we provide extension services for farmers to get the best possible harvest,” promised Governor Kihika. On Saturday, Governor Susan Kihika flagged off relief food to various parts of Nakuru County.
The Governor was speaking at during the third year anniversary to since Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic parish was established. Other leaders in attendance were Women Rep Liza Chelule, Njoro Constituency MP Charity Kathambi and MCAs Cyrus Dida (Mau Narok), Philip Wanjohi (Lare), Moses Koros (Mauche) and Simon Kamau of Kihingo ward.
