Five Nakuru residents are among the many Kenyans feted as heroes and heroines during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Davison Primary School in Kihingo, Njoro Sub County.
The five were identified for their tremendous contribution to society in various sectors among them sports, charity work and community social services.
Addressing media, they lauded the National government in collaboration with the county government of Nakuru for recognizing their role in transforming society.
Kihiko Kibui- a 90 year old veteran freedom fighter stated that many who were in forest fighting for the nation died long time ago.
His challenge to youths is to ensure they take care of this nation Kenya and avert vises that might derail the achievements.
Mzee Kibui also calling on the elected leaders to ensure the welfare of the elderly is taken care of even at grassroots level.
“We have come from far and we should not allow the achievements be derailed. Let the government also take care of our welfare as elderly” he said.
Dr.Francis Oracle from Oracle Television Network who is also the Senior Pastor Mountain of Deliverance Church Nakuru was also feted as a hero following his contribution towards feeding the vulnerable in society during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also reached out to the Pastors and community members in Nakuru paying their rent during the harsh economic times.
The Clergy says the task was not an easy one and little did he know he would be recognized by government of the day for his contribution.
He challenges political class to shun corruption and focus on transforming the country.
“When COVID-19 hit the nation I stepped in to feed people and it was not easy. But I want to thank the government for recognizing my work. My challenge to leaders is that let us shun corruption and make Kenya a better place.
Others who were feted in Nakuru for their tremendous contribution in society include Winny Towett(Community work),Hannah Ngendo (Olympian Athlete), and Judith Serenge(Former Kenya Volleyball ladies player).
Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus Mbui assuring members of the opublic that the national committee in place will continue to identify more heroes and heroines so that they can be feted in future celebrations.
“These are just but a few that were recognized for this year’s celebrations but we will continue to identify more heroes and heroines” said Mbui.
