The late Naivasha’s Lakeview ward MCA Karanja Mburu’s staff will remain in office until a by-election is done and new MCA elected.

This follows deliberations by Nakuru county assembly.

A letter of termination of their contract had elicited mixed reactions.

The letter that was written by the Human resource department of the county assembly had indicated that the services of the  late MCA’s driver, secretary and Personal Assistant were no longer required following his demise.

However,on Wednesday the MCAs unanimously protested on the floor of the house over the same.

And after deliberations with speaker Joel Maina Kairu, the matter was sorted with agreement that they remain in office until another MCA is elected.

Kabazi ward MCA Dr.Peter Mbae who was also the chair of the funeral committee for the late MCA in Tuesday stated that the matter of the staff had been resolved.

“After protest by the members, we’ve agreed with speaker that the letter will be recalled and the staff allowed to work until another MCA is elected” said Mbae.

He added that the  letter was an error as the HR department simply went by the contract the staff had with the Assembly without looking at the unique circumstances of where a member dies in office.
