The news of the demise of ODM Nakuru Branch chairman Peter Ndungunya Ole Sono on Tuesday morning re-kindled memories of an incident of 2015 in which the deceased was accused of firing at Nakuru journalists.
The Nakuru-based journalists were covering a protest over illegal encroachment on an access road in Ol Jorai, Gilgil in Nakuru County.
The incident saw the deceased ODM politician feature in the headlines for shooting at journalists and taken to court
Sono was caught on camera in May 22, 2015, in Oljorai village in Nakuru County firing at journalists who were covering a protest over illegal encroachment on an access road in Ol Jorai.
He was charged with incitement to violence, disobedience of the law and almost bringing death to Raphael Munge and Evans Barnabas Asiba.
But he was declared not guilty by a Naivasha court.
He would later be released after Chief Magistrate Peter Gesora threw out all the four charges he was facing.
The magistrate also directed the police to return his pistol and firearm certificates they confiscated from Sono according to a local daily who first reported the story.
When the news of his death was made public,Nakuru journalists through their Whatsapp group recalled the shooting incident.
Despite the incident,majority of them recounted how the deceased was a great person who always gave them sound bytes for their news articles.
Until his death, Ole Sono was the ODM Chair Nakuru Branch- a position he served with passion and courage.
