Kairu optimistic of clinching Nakuru East parliamentary seat

Nakuru Town East Parliamentary seat candidate on Jubilee Party ticket Joel Maina Kairu has expressed optimism of clinching the seat.

Speaking to this writer over the weekend, Kairu stated that the electorates need change and he is up to the task.

The current Nakuru County speaker who also served as Chief Executive Committee Member for Roads in the first Nakuru County government says his record is very clear.

“I have been a CECM for Roads and now am the speaker and the record is very clear.I believe I am ready to serve the people of Nakuru Town East as their MP ” he said.

He added that under his leadership, challenges of Nakuru Town East will be addressed through women,youth and PWDs empowerment.

He has also vowed to increase Bursary allocation to Ksh10,000.

On matters security that has been a challenge in Nakuru East with emergence of Criminal gangs such as Confirm, the Jubilee candidate says he will work with security teams in ensuring enhanced security.

 Kairu will be battling out with among others incumbent David Gikaria of UDA, Grace Karuga of KANU, Benson Mwangi(Independent) and Isa Okello of ODM.

Eng. Joel Maina Kairu is the new Nakuru County Assembly speaker.
Eng. Kairu a former CeC for Roads in the Governor Kinuthia administration decisively won the seat in the first round of voting garnering 62 out of 78 votes.
Former Subukia constituency MP Hon. Nelson Gaichuhie who is said to have enjoyed the backing of some senior officials in the Nakuru Jubilee Party office performed miserably managing only 14 votes.
The only other candidate who got votes in the one round voting was Ms. Anne Njeri Karigu who managed a paltry two votes. Others in the race like Nakuru Jubilee Secretary General Cheruiyot Peter Kiplangat aka Mtumishi, Lawyer Bore Peter Kiprotich, Dr Mutiti Waithanji and Muigai Simon Ngugi got nil votes.

Taking over the seat, Engineer Kairu started by thanking his predecessor Senator Susan Kihika for ably steering the pioneer assembly and promised that his office and that of the Senator will work closely together.
“I will start by thanking my worthy predecessor Senator Susan Kihika for the commendable work you did at the County assembly. As a pioneer assembly, you made tremendous achievements in legislation and steadfast guidance and it is my belief that you also do the same at the senate which we shall work very closely. This County Assembly and the office of the Senate will work very closely to ensure Nakuru County reaches new heights,” said the newly elected Speaker.
Eng. Joel Maina Kairu has also said that his office and that of the clerk of the County Assembly will work in building the capacity of each member to ensure they carry out their constitutional roles effectively.
The new Speaker has promised to continue with the works of the previous house in carrying out their role as spelt in the Constitution.
He however said that the work of the assembly should not be construed as an affront to anyone individual especially the executive.
“Our oversight role as the Nakuru County assembly should not be taken as an affront to any force especially the executive and should not be taken as witch-hunt. Ours is to ensure Nakuru County achieves its development agenda,” said Speaker Joel Maina Kairu.
