Nakuru County continues to reap big from Dr William Ruto’s presidency. After getting a full Cabinet Minister for the first time in 50 years, Nakuru has, once again, a reason to smile.
This follows the appointment of three individuals from Nakuru to serve in the new Presidents administration as Principal Secretaries. This number is unprecedented in Nakuru’s history and it is evident that President Ruto is paying back the huge support he and the UDA party received from Nakuru.
From the list of the 51 proposed Principal Secretaries, Nakuru County has Charles Hinga, Nixon Korir and Festus Ng’eno on the list. While Mr Charles Hinga has been retained from the previous administration, Nixon Korir is an immediate former MP. Festus Ng’eno on the other hand is the outgoing County Executive Member for Water, Environment, Energy and Natural Resources in Nakuru
Hon. Nixon, popularly known as Generali, is a native of the Solai ward in Rongai Sub- County. Between 2017 and 2022, Nixon Korir served as the MP for Lang’ata Constituency in Nairobi County. He has been proposed to be the new PS for State Department for Lands and Physical Planning. Interestingly, the Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Zachariah Mwangi Njeru, is also from Nakuru County.
Charles Hinga will continue serving in the Stae department for Housing and Urban Development, a docket he has held for the last five years. Among the projects in Nakuru that have come during his tenure include; the affordable housing project in Kivumbini, the Modern Nakuru Market near Kingdom Seekers Church and the newly launched Nakuru City Bau Park at Ziwani. The bus park was launched in September this year by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.
PS Charles Hinga is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree from Kenyatta University (Kenya) and a Bachelor of Accounting Science (Honors) from the University of South Africa. He is a co-founder of Pamoja Capital, which is an advisory firm with offices in Nairobi and Johannesburg where he served as the Chairman until 2017. He was born in Nakuru at the famous Bondeni Maternity Hospital.
Engineer Festus Ng’eno ghas over a decade of experience in management. Before being appointed CECM for Water, Environment, Energy and natural Resources in Nakuru, Ng’eno worked in both the public and private sectors in several East African Countries. In Kenya, he has worked with World Vision, Kericho water & Sanitation Company and Davis & Shirtliff.
The proposed PS for State Development for Environment is a Registered Lead Expert on Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit (EIA, EA) Expert with the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA). He has a Master of Science (MSc.) Degree in Environmental & Biosystems Engineering and Bachelor of Science (BSc.) Degree in Environmental & Biosystems Engineering from the University of Nairobi. Additionally, he holds a Post Graduate Diploma Certificate in Leadership & Corporate Governance from KCA University.
