The Kenya National Library (knls) Nakuru locally known as the “Nakuru Library” by locals, will from October introduce an online learning concept which will require participants to work in groups called peer groups.
The Learning Circles or Peer to Peer University (P2PU) concept will run from the Nakuru Library. It will involve participants coming to the library and together with their peers who are taking a common online course will study together for 90 minutes per session, one day per week for a period of between 6-8 weeks.
During the training of would-be facilitators of the P2PU at the Nakuru Library Boardroom, Mr Richard Atuti the Director of Kenya National Libraries said that the project aims at helping people who are studying online by creating a social learning environment in public libraries.
The P2PU program is facilitated by EIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries) and Nakuru will be carrying out the pilot project which is funded by the Information Programme of the Open Society Foundations (OSF).
In attendance at the launch were officials from KNLS Nakuru and Nairobi, partners who included chief Kariuki, students from some of the universities from Nakuru and other volunteers who have been partnering with KNLS Nakuru in the past.
