Nakuru Environment and Land court has directed CS Environment Keriako Tobiko, Regional Commissioner George Natembeya to appear in court on September 22 to answer contempt charges brought against them by the residents bordering Eastern Mau.
Addressing the media in Nakuru town, the residents who had filed their case on July 20 this year through their lawyer Benard Kipkoech Ngetich said the government officers have been executing their demarcation activities to the detriment of the locals.
Ngetich said that there has been a fundamental violation of the rights of the locals despite an existing court order to restrain the government from that activity.
“It is saddening that there has been continued violation of fundamental rights of the locals despite a court order being in place” said Ng’etich.
Nessuit MCA Samwel Tonui and Mauche MCA Philip Rotich said that the ongoing demarcation is likely to leave many families squatters as the officers set up beacons in new boundaries.
