Nakuru MCAs vow to support Punguza Mizigo initiative

Nakuru County Assembly members have shown their willingness to support the Punguza Mzigo Initiative that is being campaigned for by Third way Alliance party leader Dr. Ekuru Aukot.

Their reactions come after Aukot presented and elaborated more about his constitutional change bill before Nakuru County Assembly on Wednesday.

The MCAs later engaged him with questions seeking more clarifications about the bill.

The MCAs have said that they are now waiting for the bill to be brought to their house and pass it citing that it is aimed at adding more revenue to the Wards for development.

As per the Bill, every ward will be getting allocation of Ksh 200millions per year.

The Nakuru MCAs have vowed to go back to grass root and sensitize the electorates on advantages of the initiative during public participation as required by law.

“We will now go back to the electorates at ward level and also help them understand more about the Bill” said Majority leader Moses Ndung’u Kamau.

The MCAs have said that its now their time to exercise their constitutional mandate of legislation without influence from the National Assembly.

However, Aukot has faulted National Majority Leader Aden Duale for intimidating MCAs not to support the bill.He said the MCAs should play their role without any intimidation form any quota.

“The MCAs should not be intimidated by anyone in dispensing their duties of oversight and ensuring that resources go back to the grassroot” said Aukot.

The Bill should win majority of the County Assemblies and also go through the parliament.

If it sails through both Parliaments then it shall be sent to President to assent to it to become law.

However, if it fails in the National assembly following ongoing supremacy between Senate and National assembly then it shall go back to citizens through a referendum.

Aukot says he is optimistic that it will sail through either way so that Kenyans can be relieved from the overrepresentation so that focus can now be on development.
