The county Government of Nakuru is in the process of rehabilitating Afraha Stadium to make it an aesthetic land mark for Nakuru County.
This was revealed when Nakuru County’s Sports Chief Officer Dr. Benjamin Koskey accompanied Public Works Chief Officer Eng. Samuel Mwaura visited Kakamega County for bench marking at Bukhungu Stadium.
According to Dr. Koskey, the move will open the County to International sports tourism, putting it on the world map of sports.
“We want to attract investors and stakeholders in the sports world to make Afraha Stadium their stadium of choice when hosting national and international games” said Mr Koskey.
On His part , Kakamega county sports culture and social services Cec Robert Makhanu stated that Bukungu stadium, whose construction begun in 2016 is about to enter its Second phase of construction.
Currently, it stands with a sitting capacity of 3,600 supported by steel and concrete and is meant to be complete by 2021.
Early this month, Nakuru County hosted the SportsPesa Cup competition that saw teams from East Africa battle it out at Afraha Stadium.
