Stanbic Nakuru City Marathon to Create a New Hub for Athletes

Nakuru city today hosted the second edition of the Stanbic Nakuru City Marathon. The annual event attracted more than 3,000 runners participating from all over the country.

The winners were Vincent Ng’etich from Keringet and Catherine Relin in the 21 Km race while Viola Chepngeno and Dennis Kipng’etich won in the 10 KM category.

Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika said that the city will continue to hold the event annually and also find other avenues to help develop, nurture and promote sports talent and skills among the youth.

“We will ensure the completion of Keringet stadium and improve other community stadia to promote athletics in the county and provide a training opportunity for local athletes,” said the Governor.

Additionally, the Governor appreciated the provision of opportunity for Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD) to participate in this edition highlighting her administration will ensure sports facilities across the county are disability friendly.

Stanbic Bank Kenya CEO Charles Mudiwa said that the partnership seeks to ensure the marathon becomes an International Marathon event.

Mr Mudiwa further highlighted that the marathon will help create a new hub for athletes in the county and the country at large.
