Speaker calls for servant leadership in his eulogy to late Nation Newspaper Distributor

Nakuru County assembly speaker Joel Maina Kairu has eulogized the late Nation Newspaper Distributor Mzee Paul Gatete Kiratu as hardworking, dedicated Christian and a great family who contributed generously towards the growth of the church.

Speaking when he joined family, friends, leaders of the Church and congregants of ACK Cathedral Nakuru to celebrate the life of the late, Kairu said such virtues should be emulated by all generation for a better society.

He called on leaders to shun corruption and strive to be servant leaders.

“As we bid farewell to him, my plea is that we should envision to live a life of purpose. Leaders should shun corruption and strive to be servant leaders” said Kairu.

Paul Gatete Kiratu, who was based in Nakuru County, was 103 years old.

Mr Kiratu died on November 16 at Nakuru War Memorial Hospital.

He will be buried at the Nakuru North Cemetery on Tuesday.

Mr Kiratu rose from humble beginnings as a hawker to become a well-known businessman in Nakuru town.He was popularly referred to as ‘Kiratu wa gazeti ya Nation (Kiratu of the Nation newspaper)’.

Mr Kiratu started distributing the newspapers and other products in the early 1960s.

He covered North and Central Rift Valley regions until 1999, when he stopped the distribution business.

He is survived by 11 children, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
