Shock as patient disappears from Nakuru Level 5 hospital

A patient who was admitted at Nakuru level five hospital a week ago has disappeared in unclear circumstances.

Julius Waithaka Mwangi 56, was admitted at Nyayo ward 11 bed number 35 on Wednesday last week after he collapsed while at ghis work place in Langalanga estate.

Waithaka is a mechanic at Gabriel Mwangi motor vehicles garage.

According to a colleague Peter Kimani, “Waithaka collapsed on Wednesday afternoon due to blood pressure and immediately we rushed him to Nakuru level five hospital where he was placed in a machine upon admission”.

Kimani said that the patient regained consciousness after two days and he went to visit him on Friday last week. He pointed out that he learnt of his disappearance on Saturday after visiting the facility.

Kimani said that Waithaka who hails from Gatundu in Kiambu County has been living alone in Nakuru for the last 20 years where he has been working as a mechanic.

Worried about his friends’ where about, Kimani decided to make a formal report at Nakuru showground police station under OB number 11/6/8/2018.

He said that after questioning medics at Nakuru level five hospital he was asked to look for Waithaka at the facility’s morgue but he could not be traced anywhere even at the Nakuru public morgue.

He is now appealing to anyone who might have seen him to report to the police or Nakuru level five hospital administration.

His personal effects including a basin and clothes are still at the hospital and those who had been admitted next to him say they last saw him sitting on the been on Saturday.

Contacted on phone, the hospital medical superintendent in charge of the hospital Dr. Joseph Mburu said that he was not aware of the case and needed sometime to confirm with the in charge at ward 11.

Entrance to and from Nakuru level five hospital happens after one undergoes a thorough security cheque including verification of an official rubber stamp that is normal stamped on a visitors hand.

Verification of discharge summary sheet for all patients leaving the hospital also have to be done by private security guards manning the gates under 24 hours cctv surveillance.
