Senator James Mungai condolences to Naivasha accident victims

Message of Condolences to the Families of the Line Stage Karai Road Accident Victims from Nakuru County Senator James Mungai.
I was very saddened when I was informed of the passing on of over thirty of our fellow citizens through a fatal road accident on the Nakuru – Nairobi road last night; as well as serious injuries to six persons. I send my deepest condolences to the bereaved families; all their close friends; neighbours and colleagues and the people of Karai in whose neighborhood this tragedy occurred.
In this particular incident, I understand that a Ugandan registered truck with a bulk consignment of highly flammable commodities experienced brakes failure apparently due to the steep descent at the area. It is also alleged that it hit the first bump near the Line stage, and lost control hitting over 13 vehicles on both sides of the highway injuring six (6) persons and occasioning the unfortunate loss of over thirty lives within a matter of minutes.
It must be extremely shocking and heart-rending to suddenly lose loved ones in such a sudden manner. I say this because the loss of just one promising life is devastating, but the scale of this tragedy will deeply affect many people; including parents, children, siblings, relatives and friends.
However, as we grieve today, we must ensure that this carnage on our roads is put to a stop as it is absolutely unacceptable. It is now a fact that the Nakuru – Nairobi highway has gained an unsavory reputation in the deaths of motorists, passengers and pedestrians. This means that there is something wrong here that we need to address together.
For this particular case again, there is need to again interrogate the prudence of having those speed bumps at that particular spot; and whether their design is appropriate should it be deemed that they are required at that spot.
As such, I wish to urge the law enforcement authorities including NTSA and KENHA to swiftly get to the bottom of the causes of this tragedy of accidents on this and other roads; and the law must be firm on those found to have flouted any rules and regulations of the road, leading to such fatalities.
To the families; especially the children, parents, brothers and sisters; as well as other relatives, friends and colleagues of the victims; please accept my deepest sympathies as there is no grieving message that can lessen the feeling of loss.
I know this experience will change you forever. But bear in mind all the good times you shared with the ones who have passed on and all the love they gave you over the years. Know that they are not gone but will live in your hearts forever.
Finally, let me say that my prayers and thoughts are with the bereaved families and friends; that the Almighty God will pacify you; be your rock, your fortress and your deliverer in these times of grief. As the bible says, in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds.
Once again, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to you all.
My God bless you.
The Hon. Sen. James K. Mungai
Senator, Nakuru County
