Scope of work expected in phase 2 of Afraha Stadium construction

On Thursday November 13, 2025, Defense Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya accompanied by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika,  Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru, Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria, CECMs and MCAs among others handed over Afraha Stadium phase 2 construction to contractor and KDF for the phase 2 construction.

The move will raise the facility to international standards.

Phase 2 involves building the third and fourth pavilions to expand the seating capacity of the current 8,000-seater facility to 13,000, adding more public washrooms, parking areas, a canopy, fencing, and two access roads next to the stadium which will make Afraha one of the largest and most modern stadiums outside Nairobi.

The facility is constructed through a partnership between the Kenya Defence Forces and the County Government of Nakuru.

Once completed, it will enhance sporting infrastructure in Nakuru, boost the local economy, promote youth empowerment, and strengthen Nakuru’s status as a leading sporting hub in the country.

Speaking during the event, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika lauded President William Ruto for having the KDF oversee the project and Hon Soipan for her commitment.
