
There was joy at Mureranjau Primary School in Wanjohi Ward, Kipipiri Constituency in Nyandarua County on Wednesday April 10, 2024 when Rotarians visited with donation of uniforms and other goodies to the over 300 pupils.

The School’s head James Wahome said the school has 12 teachers plus 1 employee of Board of Management, with a population of 324 pupils.
Started in 1963 with first KCPE in 1967 being the only school by then, before others came in.
Rotary Club has continued to support the school making it have a new face.

The first batch of 9 students under support are now in national schools.
However, it has been experiencing challenges of dilapidated classrooms and shortage of desks.
“Sitting arrangement in classrooms has been a challenge due to shortage of desks leading to 4 learners sharing a desk,” stated the Headteacher.
While noting that renovations of classrooms has been a challenge, Wahome was quick to note that things are taking shape through communication here and there to Rotary Club of Nakuru.
“We promise to work hard and ensure the improved infrastructure lead to better academic performance,” he said.
Sentiments echoed by BOM chairperson Nehemiah Ndirangu who is also an Alumni of the school.
According to him, learners supported by Rotary club have continued to excell wherever they go.
“We laud our donors for the support of the school,” he said.
On his part Rotary Club of Nakuru President James Yegon revealed how his first time visit to the school touched him due to the poor state and the look of learners with no uniforms.
He however commended the donors from for the support to the school and Kirima community at large.
Yegon also used the opportunity to urge parents to stand with the school through BOM chairperson.
“When PTA and BOM chairs speak asking for any support, let us do so without complaining,” he said.
According to him, a section of the vast school land should be used to grow food that can help with feeding program.
While assuring support from Rotarians, Yegon also urged the school’s management to work closely with Government in ensuring it complements what donors are doing.
Joab Okello- the Regional Co-ordinator Rift Valley Rotary and also in charge of all projects of Rotary Club Nakuru challenged the community and Alumni of this school to mobilize themselves and start a Rotary Club of Nyandarua.
This, he said will make charity work easier.
“The Alumni of this school should always remember the school in deeds. Whatever we are doing in Nakuru can be replicated here in Nyandarua,” he said.
Gerry Tipple from Rotary Club Prague International said giving back to the community is key but then when we give , the project should then be able to sustain itself.
He revealed that their journey of assisting the school and the community was informed after a visit two years ago.
During the Wednesday April 10, 2024 event, Gerry Tipple announced that besides donation of uniforms, shoes, together with other partners among them Rotary Club of Nakuru, Rotary Club of Hurlingham, they will commence the refurbishment of classrooms which are in poor state.
The philanthropist added that they will also ensure enough desks for learners at the school.
The club through partnership is also planning to set up a community borehole to help the school and community around.
“We will continue to support the school and the community in this area for a better future,” he said.
It should be noted that already 9 learners from Mureranjau Primary School have received full sponsorship Courtesy of Rotary Club Prague International.
Speaking during the event, the learners led by Charity Chonke and Esther Mumbi vowed to work hard in their studies.
Charity and Esther are now students at Loreto High School in Limuru and Wanjohi Girls in Nyandarua.
“We are very grateful for the support that we have received from Rotary and ours is just to work hard,” they stated.
Sentiments echoed by Charles Karimi who studied at Mureranjau Primary School in Nyandarua but now a student at Ol-kalou High School.
He challenged learners not to look where they come from but rather work hard in their studies.

The event was also graced by Mureranjau Primary School Alumni led by Kariuki Wanyoike.
He lauded Rotary Club Prague International and partners for supporting the school and Community around.
Wanyoike revealed that as alumni, they will continue to partner with like minded to improve the academic standards in the area.
He revealed that one Sister Veronica Waithera is the person who introduced Rotary Club and partners in the community hence the Partnership.
“We all have a responsibility to ensure a better society free from poverty and the journey has just began. This gesture by sponsors illustrates that collaboration is key towards Transformation of society,” he said.

During the event, learners had time to share refreshments and bread with the guests and teachers who could not hide their joy.
