Reprieve for timber manufacturers as court halts tender

Timber Manufacturers Association(TMA) got a reprieve

after the Environment and Land Court court in Nakuru issued orders blocking the ongoing tendering process of forest materials by Kenya Forest Services.

ELC Judge John Mutungi certified the matter as urgent and as such directed that the matter be mentioned on December 20 this year for inter-partes hearing.
TMA chairman Benard Kimani said that the forest agency is operating in total impunity disregarding the pending allocation of trees to the members who paid for it four years ago.
“The KFS is completely ignoring the TMA and floating a new tender yet they have not released the trees paid in the last tender”, he said.
TMA issued a 21 day notice to CS Environment Keriako Tobiko to degazette a board member purportedly representing the industry saying that the official is colluding to frustrate the members.
