President Ruto lays Foundation stone for the Vipingo Special Economic Zone in Kilifi

President Ruto has laid Foundation stone for the Vipingo Special Economic Zone in Kilifi County.

This marks a major milestone with the project set to transform the economic landscape of the Coast region and the country at large.

The SEZ is a flagship collaboration between Centum Investment Company Plc and ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms, bringing together local and international expertise to deliver one of the most ambitious industrialization projects in Kenya.

Set on 2,000 acres, the Vipingo SEZ will be developed as a plug-and-play industrial park with state-of-the-art infrastructure and a strong focus on green energy solutions to ensure sustainable, low-carbon industrial growth.

The project has already secured a direct investment of USD 100 million, with an overall projected mobilization of USD 3 billion in local and foreign direct investments (FDI) once fully operational.

Beyond capital inflows, the SEZ will be a game changer for job creation. It is projected to generate 50,000 direct jobs within the industrial park and a further 250,000 indirect jobs across the value chains in transport, logistics, services, and supply industries.

The Vipingo SEZ underscores Kenya’s commitment to industrialization, value addition, and export-led growth.

It is also a strategic investment in opening up the Coast region, unlocking opportunities for local communities, and positioning Kenya as a competitive hub for manufacturing and global trade.
