President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued stern warning to Police officers who play laxity on their duties that they risk being sacked from the National Police service.
Addressing top security meeting in Mombasa on Friday, the President said a trend where police officers fail to deliver in one particular area and are transferred to another station will be a thin of the past.
He noted that failure cannot be transferred from one area to another tasking the County and Regional Security Chiefs to ensure every officer delivers as per the law.
Meanwhile, officers that do good job in the service will be awarded with the Head of State being categorical that he has already given directive to the Inspector General on how to go about it.
“Let me say it here that we are working on how to reward the officers who do good job but even as we do that those who do not deliver will have to exit the Service. We cannot transfer failures from one area to another..I hope we are together on that” the President stated.
The President also reminding the Security chiefs of the crucial role they have in the fight against terrorism acts.
He called on the officers to ensure they work in coordination with the County Anti terrorism unit towards ensuring the county plans on fighting extremism is well implemented.
For this reason all County security chiefs have been tasked to ensure proper coordination to Mount operations to flush out radicalized groups, implementation of County action plan to help address terrorism with a report on the same expected to be delivered by end of August.
“There should be proper coordination in the service in the above and I expect a report on the same by end of August” said President Kenyatta.
The head of State also directing the County security chiefs to engage politicians and religious leaders to help in denying any space of extremist groups in society.
And for those who will refuse to work in coordination should be reported and action taken more so in the affected regions.
In addition, Continuous training will be done for officers to help equip them with skills to help in the fight against terror with Dynamics of terrorism and economic linkages with terrorism expected to be cut.
Additional equipment for the security team will also be supplied to ease their work.
The county security chiefs have also been tasked to ensure no more contraband goods through borders besides dealing with those recruiting radicalized groups.
The Meeting that was convened by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr.Fred Matiang’i and PS Karanja Kibicho also saw the security team tasked to ensure they be ambassadors of the Jubilee administration’s Big 4 agenda.
