Over 100 families affected by flash floods in Waseges Ward receive relief food

Over 100 families that were affected by flash floods at Thuthwa in Waseges Ward, Subukia Sub-county of Nakuru County on Tuesday May 14, 2024 received emergency relief food from the government.

The distribution exercise was led by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara.

According to Kihika, this swift action aimed to provide short-term relief to those in dire need as they recover from the flood-related losses.

She noted that due to the community’s cooperation in relocating to safer areas, no lives were lost.

The Governor who spoke during the exercise pointed out that in addition to the relief efforts, her administration and other agencies are working on long-term solutions, such as solarizing boreholes for improved water accessibility, rehabilitation of roads destroyed by the floods and the construction of a market.

“Collaborating with the national government, we will prioritize environmental conservation by planting trees in the area,” she stated.

This, even as the community has promised to plant and take care of trees in the Marmanet Forest shared by Nakuru, Laikipia and Baringo Counties.

The county government of Nakuru shall provide the seedlings for the same.

Kihika also used the moment to reveal that she has instructed the Department of Education to promptly disburse bursary cheques to deserving students.

The distribution of emergency relief food exercise was also attended by area MCA Elijah Murage, Nixon Morogo (Solai), and Michael Gathanwa (Eburru Mbaruk).
