Ogiek Peoples Development Program(OPDP) Director Daniel Kobei had lauded steps made by Hunter Gatherer Forum Kenya Network in advocating for the indigenous groups.
Kobei’s sentiments come even as all Hunter Gatherer communities under the HUGAFO-K (Hunter Gatherer Forum Kenya) network successfully submitted their memoranda on the National Policy and Bill on Ethnic Minorities and Marginalized Communities to their respective County Commissioners.
These communities include: Ogiek, Sengwer, Yaaku, El Molo, Aweer (Boni), Waayu (Waata)and Lmartins of Ntim Nariko Forest.
Kobei argues that this exercise marks a powerful step toward recognition, inclusion, and justice for communities that have long been left on the periphery of national development.
“Through these memoranda, the hunter gatherer communities are voicing their collective aspirations — to secure their ancestral lands, preserve their cultures, access equitable development, and ensure their rights are fully recognized in Kenya’s policy framework,” he stated.
Kobei added that together, under the coordination of HUGAFO-K Network these communities are shaping their own future — one where no voice is left unheard and no community is left behind.
