As the World Marks AIDs Day, the current Nakuru Town East Constituency leadership has been slammed for failing to come up with measures towards reducing the new HIV infections.
Wakili Boniface Githinji Ndumia who is eyeing the seat in 2027, says it is so unfortunate that Nakuru Town East and Nakuru county as a whole has overtaken Kisumu County in terms of statistics of new HIV infections.
In his official statement on this day, Wakili Ndumia stated, “Today as we celebrate the gains made against the scourge that once threatened to wipe off the human race, a testament of our resilience as the human race. Through scientific research and discoveries. Civic Education. And the best of all, the rising above the stigmatisation of those positively living.”
He was however quick to point out that as Team Ndumia they join the world to celebrate all these gains and milestones achieved in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
He reiterated his commitment that he will closely work with the Community Leaders in the various wards working with those positively living, the infected and the affected to ensure reduction of new infections and address HIV deaths related.
“Leadership that will help address the increasing cases of AIDs – related deaths within NTE; which should be worrying concern to our present leadership, that is, if they at all cared for the people of Nakuru County – which has now overtaken Kisumu county in these cases,” he said.
He added that his administration will equally work and overwork in the sensitisation of communities on the preventive measures and, even more importantly how to embrace, supportive and live with those of living positively till a case of zero stigmatisation of those living positively is achieved.
He was however quick to point out that HIV/AIDS is not a death sentence as it was once adding that we may reduce the new cases of infection through conscious and deliberate changes in our lifestyles.
Wakili Ndumia in celebrating the day hinted at arranging for an informal meeting with those living positively in Nakuru to have a say – it – all meeting, discuss the challenges they face daily – the medical expenses and the cost of nutrition especially and issues like the need to adhere to drug regiments for the suppression of the virus to avert drug resistance in the viruses and many other social/medical challenges they face daily.
