Nakuru Woman Rep Aspirant on DCP ticket Asumpta Wangui has called for accountability following recent fire incident at Utumishi Girls Academy.
The incident left 16 learners dead and scores injured in the Wednesday dawn tragedy.
Speaking to famousnakuru.co.ke, Woman Rep Aspirant Asumpta Wangui termed the incident as a tragedy that could have been avoided.
She called for accountability om the side of the school’s management.
According to her, matrons in Girls’ schools should be held accountable as they are supposed to be in schools 24 hours.
“The questions I’m askinh myself as a mother is where was matron of the school when this incident happened? The matrons from my knowledge they should be in schools throughout,” she stated.
Asumpta at the same time called on the Ministry of education to work on the safety policy that all schools were to adhere to.
While sending her message of condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the Utumishi Girls’ incident, Asumpta said it is time for such incidents in schools to be brought to an end.
This, even as 8 learners have been arrested in connection to the fire incident at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County.
According to DCI report, the CCTV footages from the school linked the learners with the fire incident.
They are being processed for arraignment in court.
