Nakuru Human Rights Defender David Kuria Western points out that security in Nakuru has to be addressed.
According to him, Nakuru has also turned to be safe place to criminals adding that the issue was raised one week a go when Interior CS Murkomen and Deputy IG were in Nakuru Town.
The Issue of day robbery at KANU House premises was raised where innocent people especially old men and women are corned by a group of people who pretend to be doing promotions but they have fleezed people money from their Mpesa and Mpesa Bank accounts after tricking the victims to give their MPesa Pin number.
Kuria revealed that Nakuru East DCIO is aware about it after he personally reported the issue to his office last week and 7 or 6 people were arrested by his officers but later released without any charges that there was no one who had recorded statement regarding fraud.
Kuria opines that he later made more follow up and on 18/8/2025 he took a man who’s phone had been robbed Kshs 34,700 by the same people who had been arrested and later released.
The victim recorded statement and also gave the Mpesa transaction at the Nakuru DCIO office.
The suspect was arrested for the second time and agreed they had robbed the victim the money he was released without being charged in court despite police having evidence and the stolen money which had been given back to the police officer by the suspect.
According to Kuria, the victim was called on August 20, and the money was given back to him by police.
He noted that the Deputy IG had issued order to the police officers to deal with this criminal gang, but the criminal gang is still operating stealing thousands of money every day from innocent people they seem to be well connected and protected.
The question remains for how long will the people suffer.
