Nakuru resident petitions Nawasco over new bill tariff

A Nakuru resident has petitioned Nakuru Water and Sanitation Service company Limited-Nawasco for changing bill tariff for clients amidst COVID-19.

John Muthoni says the company has automatically debited Ksh. 1,000 to the customers’ account.

“It has come to my attention that Nawasco has changed the bill tariff by automatically debiting Ksh 1,000 to the customers’ account after they failed to pay monthly bill on the due date” he said.

The petitioner says its wrong for the company to debit such amount to a client during this COVID-19 pandemic that has clipped the economy leaving thousands of residents jobless.

He further argues that there was no public participation.

The petition is before county assembly and also received by Nawasco.

The petitioner now wants the county assembly to investigate the matter besides coming up with legislation that will protect residents from exploitation and extortions by monopoly service providers.
