Nakuru County boasts in having an increase in access to reproductive healthcare services.
According to statistics from County Health Department, there has been an increase from below 47 percent since inception of devolution to 79 percent currently.
In a speech read on her behalf by Chief Officer Public participation, Citizen Engagement and Civic Education Gitau Kamau during event to mark World Contraception Day at Rongai Health Centre in Rongai Sub-county, Nakuru County Executive for health Roselyn Mungai reiterated the County’s commitment towards improving access to reproductive healthcare services.
This, she said the county is working closely with health partners towards achieving the same.
CECM Mungai lauded Healthcare workers for the role played towards quality services.
“In Nakuru County, there has been increase in access to reproductive health services from below 47 to the current 79 percent,” she stated.
However, there has been high teenage pregnancy.
The Executive for health noted that this remains a challenge in Nakuru, however the County is working on how to address the same.
Under the this year’s Theme: Contraception Choices; The power is in my hands, the County Government of Nakuru with partners such as Dandelion Africa and USAID Tujenge Jamii hosted this year’s event.
Chief Officer Gitau on his part reiterated the need for more sensitization of public at grassroot on matters health.
While lauding CHPs for the great work they have continued to do at grassroot, Gitau challenged all healthcare workers to emulate the same.
“CHPs have continued to make us proud as a county and this is something that should be emulated by all healthcare workers in our County,” he noted.
Gitau also called for the need to have more sensitization at grassroot so that more people can be reached.
Speaking during the event, Visoi Ward MCA Hellen Jemutai lauded Community Health Promoters and Dandelion Africa adding that they are playing key role in society and should be appraised.
“I have worked with them and I know they are doing great job. We need to support them,” she stated.
She added that as elected leader, she will work together with management of Rongai Health Centre to boost health services to the locals.
The facility is now having Maternity wing to ensure women get SRH services.
Mosop Ward MCA who is also Majority Leader Dr.Alex Langat called for the need for more sensitization on matters Contraception and family planning.
He noted that with the economy, there is need for more planning.
At the same time lauded the CHPs for their continued service at grassroot level.
He assured the CHPs that the County Government under the leadership of Governor Susan Kihika is committed towards their welfare.
“We are also working as a county to ensure the welfare of CHPs,” he stated.
Umoja Location Chief Benson Koskei called on locals to be ambassadors on matters Contraception and family planning.
He challenged men to also come on board on matters Contraception and family planning.
The local administrator also called on locals to ensure that they register for Universal Health Coverage-SHA.
Harun Karanja from Dandelion Africa NGO that has been empowering women and girls at grassroot.
He noted that with the harsh economy, there is need for family planning.
Harun reiterated Dandelion Africa’s commitment towards supporting Sexual Reproductive Health services.
This, through the various community outreaches in at grassroot level.
Deputy County Chief Nursing Officer Mr. John Gitai who also graced the event noted that World Contraception Day is meant to sensitize the society on the importance of Contraception.
“As a country and world at large we are doing great on Contraception through innovation,” he stated.
