Members of the County assembly of Nakuru have agreed to slash part of their budget and channel the money towards the purchase of ventilators for the Nakuru level five hospital.
The assembly agreed to slash its budget by Sh 300 million which will be used to buy the much needed medical equipment for the hospital that hosts the COVID-19 isolation center.
In a supplementary budget, the MCA’s also allocated sh 40 million to be used in purchase of non-pharmaceutical items including protective gear,detergents and disinfectants.
Sh 48 million was allocated for the purchase of medical drugs while sh 10 million was set aside for the facilitation of health facility workers and community health workers across the county.
The assembly also set aside sh 43 million to be used in hiring of heath workers including 150 nurses,30 clinical officers,20 public health officers and 10 medical officers.They will be hired on a three month contract.
To enable completion of an outpatient complex at the Nakuru level five hospital, the assembly set aside sh 165 million for the same.
At the same time the assembly allocated sh 20 million to the county emergency kitty while sh 30 million was allocated to the Governors kitty.
Sh 250 million was set aside to cushion vulnerable members of the community with flower farm workers and informal settlement inhabitants being the first target.
