During the event, Bahati Sub county was celebrated for the milestone of achieving Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in all its 166 villages.

This, even as other mini events were held in other sub-counties, including Njoro, Molo, Nakuru East, Rongai, and Subukia.

During the event, County Executive Committee Member for Health Roselyn Mungai and Chief Officer for Public Health Joyce Ncece led a team to visit two households in Bahati to witness the improved sanitation practices with well-maintained toilets within the community.

Their example demonstrates the importance of moving up the sanitation ladder toward safely managed sanitation systems that have successfully been implemented in collaboration with Finish Mondial.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Mungai emphasized that sanitation is a fundamental human right and urged communities to prioritize hygiene for better public health outcomes.

She highlighted that while Nakuru County has made significant progress, more work is needed to transition all households to safely managed sanitation.

Partners such as USAID Tujenge Jamii and WSUP were recognized for their support in achieving these milestones.

“Through the support of USAID Tujenge Jamii, Bahati Sub County moved from 17percent to 100 percent ODF just within two years,” said the Bahati Sub County Health Management Team.

County Director for Public Health, Elizabeth Kiptoo said that the county remains committed to advancing sanitation efforts and ensuring clean and safe environments for all.
