Bar Owners in Nakuru East Sub county have vowed to work closely with the security team to wipe out illicit brew in the industry.
The traders made the declaration on Wednesday March 20 during a meeting held at Central Police station Nakuru.
The meeting that was also graced by Nakuru East Sub county security team led by the Sub county Police Commander Mohammed Wako saw the bar owners discuss ways in which they can complement the work of the security team in wiping out the illicit brew menace that has continued to mess lives of young people.
Addressing Journalists after the meeting Bar, Hotels, Liquor Traders Association (BAHLITA) National Secretary General Boniface Gachoka states that as traders in the liquor industry they are not opposed to the ongoing crackdown on illicit brew.
He added that BAHLITA members in Nakuru East Sub county will work closely with police to ensure no illicit brew makes way to the counters.
Gachoka assured residents of Nakuru East Sub county and Nakuru county as a whole that the legit liquor business owners will not allow a few individuals to mess up the society.
“As Bar Owners, we are here in Nakuru East Sub county making a declaration that we shall support the security team in the war against illicit brew. We want to ensure only legit businesses operate so that we can have a better society,” said Gachoka.
Nakuru East Sub county Police Commander Mohammed Wako on his part lauded the bar owners for the stand taken against illicit brew.
The SCPC noted that strides have been made so far in the whole exercise.
Wako called on Nakuru East residents to also give any information of bars and liquor joints that are in the business of illicit brew so that action can be taken.
He reiterated that the government will not relent in the fight against illicit brew.
“We will not relent in the fight against illicit brew. We call on stakeholders to continue supporting the security team in the whole exercise,” said Wako.
The move by Nakuru East Sub county bar owners to work with security agencies in the fight against illicit comes barely a week after Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki visited Nakuru and held meeting with county security team led by County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara.
The CS was clear that that the war on illicit brew will go on until the society is free of such.
