Nakuru County is set to co-host the 3rd Annual National Conference on Alternative Justice Systems in Kenya, alongside the Judiciary, scheduled for June 11 to June 14.
The conference aims to bring together various stakeholders in the Access to Justice Ecosystem, including justice practitioners, judicial officers, academics, policymakers, civil society actors, development partners, and community leaders.
On Tuesday March 19, 2024, Nakuru County Deputy Governor David Kones hosted the National Steering Committee on Implementation of Alternative Justice Systems Policy (NaSCI-AJS) of the Judiciary.
The committee, led by Prof. Justice Joel Ngugi, Chair of NaSCI-AJS and judge of the Court of Appeal, discussed areas of collaboration and mutual interests ahead of the event.
The DG reiterated the county’s commitment to co-hosting the event and acknowledged Nakuru as the pioneer in launching the County Action Plan for Alternative Justice Systems (AJS).
This initiative marks a significant stride in improving access to justice and potentially alleviating case backlog in courts.
Subsequently, the team inspected Nyayo Gardens, the designated event venue, and approved the site.
The meeting was also attended by County Chief of Staff Dr. Peter Ketyenya, Chief Officers Kennedy Mungai (Environment), Alex Maina (Sports, Resource Mobilization), Martin Kagai (Office of the Governor), Joseph Rutto (Political Advisor), Samuel Mungai (Legal Advisor), and Jemimah Aluda, head of the NaSCI-AJS Secretariat among others.
