Nakuru County on Friday October 24, 2025 marked Mental Health Day.
During the event held at Nyayo Gardens within the CBD, calls were made for concerted effort in addressing challenges that lead to mental health challenges.
Dr. Joy Mugambi, the Director for Health Administration and Planning, led the Nakuru County Department of Health in celebrating Mental Health Awareness Day.
The event was organized by the department in collaboration with various partners who joined forces to make the day a success.
This year’s theme, “Securing the Future: A Holistic Approach to Mental Health for Generations,” underscores the need to address all factors influencing mental health across communities and systems.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Mugambi emphasized the importance of integrating mental health into all sectors and leveraging local data to advance mental health initiatives.
She reaffirmed the department’s commitment to the well-being of healthcare workers, noting that Kenyan studies have revealed high levels of stress, anxiety, and burnout among frontline workers.
To address this, the department will prioritize supportive leadership, manageable workloads, access to counseling, peer support, and protected time for rest.
Dr. Mugambi urged all stakeholders to choose compassion over silence, prevention over crisis, and community over isolation in securing the future of mental health care.
