The County Government of Nakuru has launched State-of-the art County Public Health Food Laboratory.
The event was graced by Nakuru Deputy Governor David Kones.
The first ever County Public Health Food Laboratory is located at the County Public Health Offices.
This facility will play a crucial role in ensuring that food supplied within the County is fit for consumption, has the right nutritional content, and is properly labelled.
Speaking during the event, Deputy Governor Kones highlighted that the laboratory will also tackle major food safety challenges such as contamination, water safety, and milk quality, that are not just health concerns but also have profound economic implications to the Nakuru residents.
This initiative aligns with the County Government’s ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and a commitment of Governor Susan Kihika to upholding high food safety standards as the world marks the World Food Safety Day under the theme “prepare for the unexpected.”
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in every ten people Worldwide fall ill from contaminated food each year with foodborne diseases claiming the lives of approximately 420,000 people annually.
This underscores the critical importance of food safety measures.
Also present during the event was County Executive for Health Roselyn Mungai, Public Health Chief Officer Joyce Ncece, Director Medical Services – Dr.Daniel Wainaina, Director Public Health, Elizabeth Kiptoo among other County and national Government Officials and Partners.
