Nakuru county intensifies training of health staff over corona virus fears

Forty members of the Nakuru County Health Management Team have been  trained on Coronavirus surveillance and management.

Last month 190 health workers were also trained in a partnership between the County Government of Nakuru, Center for Disease Control and the Washington State University Global Health Program – Kenya

Ten doctors are currently in Nairobi undergoing specialized training on Coronavirus surveillance and Management. More will be trained in the coming days.

This comes at a time the national government and the region are on a high alert over the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in major cities across the world.

According to County Minister for Health Dr Gichuki Kariuki, the County Government of Nakuru has identified two isolation units at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital and Naivasha sub-County Referral Hospital.

He added that the Health Department is working closely with the hospitality, transport industry and other partners on surveillance matters.

County Director of Medical Services Dr Daniel Wainana said the Health Department was studying global Coronavirus trends for preparedness.

The World Health Organization has declared the virus a public health emergency of international concern.

So far, over 3, 000 deaths have been reported and 89, 843 confirmed cases in 71 countries and territories across the world.

China, South Korea, Italy and Iran are leading with deaths and infections.
