Nakuru County has launched an operation targeting illegal bars to ensure public safety and regulatory compliance. Led by officials from the County Government of Nakuru and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) from Njoro Sub-County, the collaborative task force aims to safeguard residents’ well-being.
Under the guidance of Stephen Kuria, the County Executive for Trade, and Rose Kibut, the Assistant County Commissioner of Njoro Sub-County, the team has uncovered illicit bars operating within residential areas. These establishments sold counterfeit alcoholic products without proper Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) certification and with fake Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stickers. The County Government strictly prohibits bars from operating within residential zones.
The operation, centred in Njoro Town, resulted in the apprehension of several individuals linked to the discovery of counterfeit alcohol within numerous wine and spirits outlets. The County Executive for Trade issued a stern warning regarding the consumption of alcohol procured from unverified sources, citing previous incidents where such practices led to severe consequences, including blindness and loss of life.
Nakuru County, under the leadership of H.E Governor Susan Kihika, reaffirms its unwavering commitment to prioritize the health and well-being of its residents. During this operation, the presence of Trade Chief Officer Bernard Sang, and Xavier Lugaga, County Director of Liquor, alongside other County and National Government officials, underscores the collective resolve to uphold public welfare.
