
Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa has commended Nakuru County for its proactive role in onboarding dialysis patients previously denied services by private healthcare facilities during the transition from NHIF to SHIF financing model.
Speaking during a courtesy call to Deputy Governor David Kones at the County Headquarters, Dr. Barasa reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving the challenges associated with the SHA transition to ensure equitable access to enhanced healthcare services across both public and private healthcare facilities.
To assess the progress of SHA rollout in Nakuru County, Dr. Barasa later visited Sublime Hospital, a private facility, and Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital, alongside officials from the Social Health Authority.
The CS explained the scheme’s benefits to patients with chronic illness, chemotherapy, maternity services, primary care services, and also to Public Health care facilities.
In a bid to facilitate a seamless transition, the CS announced plans for enhanced sensitization training for healthcare workers and increased community engagement initiatives.
These efforts aim to promote a deeper understanding of the SHA scheme and its advantages.
