The Department of health in Nakuru county seems to be deliberately leaving out a critical health player in its preparedness towards combating corona virus.
Community health volunteers(CHV’s), are accusing the county government of not involving them in its plans of preparing to combat a possible spread of the corona virus.
Drawn from majorly informal settlement areas of Nakuru town East, the CHV’s said that the county has not bothered to make them part of its programmes since the pandemic struck the world.
They wondered how the devolved unit through its health department plans to achieve its goal of getting its messages reach the masses if they cant involve the health volunteers.
Led by Francis Shinali, they accused the county government of sidelining them and instead opting to use nyumba kumi leaders in the corona preparedness drive.
They argued that being within the health sector they better understand the health dynamics of the people within the villages as opposed to nyumba kumi leaders.
It emerged that the county government has not bothered to train the community health volunteers on anything to do with corona virus.
They warned that the county government of Nakuru risks failing to achieve its goal of stopping the spread of corona virus in case it breaks should it fail to involve the community health volunteers.
