A platform dubbed Mulika Hongo has been launched in Nakuru County to help in the fight against corruption.
This is the first platform to be launched in Nakuru County and across the country where the public will be given the opportunity to report cases via Mulika online app or SMS 22068 under the slogan Ukiona sema, Ukiskia sema Ukishuku sema,Ukinusa sema.
Speaking on Wednesday during the launch, Nakuru County commissioner who is also the chairman of the County Security Committee Joshua Nkanatha called on the public to make good use of the platform in combating corruption.
While terming the vise ‘cancerous, the County Commissioner said that the County security committee decided to face the issue of corruption head on hence the launch of the platform.
The County Commissioner added that this will be an annual event and that it will be extended to the other departments of the county public service.
“We realized that public officers have always been accused of malpractices in the discharge of their duties and that is the perception that we want to finish but we need members of the public to help us on the same” he said.
Similar sentiments echoed by County Police Commander Hassan Barua who reiterated the commitment of the security team in the county in ensuring a corruption free society.
Ethics and Anti corruption Commission South Rift Regional Director Mr. Gilbert Lukhoba who also attended the launch ceremony at Nakuru’s Nyayo garden lauded the initiative saying it will give the public opportunity to report cases of corruption.
“This is a good initiative as it will give opportunity to the public to report cases of corruption. As EACC we call on all Kenyans to support the move and make our country corruption free as we no other country” said Lukhoba.
According to the National Coordinator Mulika Platform Ms Grace Wanjohi, the Mulika Hongo platform has enabled more than 40 eyes to report corruption and any other misconduct.
Ms Wanjohi says the ball now lies with the public whom she appealed to ensure such malpractices are reported in order to improve service delivery in public offices.
“The platform has enabled more than 40 eyes to report corruption and any other misconduct. We go to offices many a times ass citizens and the duty bearers who should serve as are nowhere to be seen. So this platform will enable to put such officers on toss so that we get the service we deserve” she said.
When a report is made to the platform either by using the Mulika App or the sms code or the web interfaces, it is received by over 80 senior security managers.
The beauty of this is that the sender remains completely anonymous and nobody will ever know that you ever reported.Mulika Hongo greatest impact is its ability to deter corruption since perpetrators can be reported by anyone, anywhere, anytime.
The function was also attended by Nakuru East Deputy County Commissioner Omar Hajji Salat and his Nakuru west counterpart Elmi Shafie, Chiefs and assistant chiefs among others.
