MP Njoki distances herself from ‘Christmas food donation drama’

Bahati Member of Parliament (MP) Irene Njoki has distanced herself from the drama that was witnessed in her constituency on Saturday where locals held peaceful demonstrations demanding Christmas food donations.
The locals claimed that the MP has failed to give them food donations for the festive season.
However, in a phone interview with this writer, the lawmaker has rubbished such claims terming them baseless.
According to Njoki, donation of food for the festive season is not a mandate of MP.
She termed those who had demonstrated over the same as hired goons who are out to tarnish her name and derail the development agenda she has laid out for the people of Bahati.
“Hired goons to try and Waterdown what I have been doing. Those are distractors. My mandate is not to give food. Again no one can force me to give what I don’t have,” she stated.
She added that donating food is not the mandate of Members of parliament, clearing her name from the drama
The first term serving Jubilee MP in Parliament won in the 2022 August elections with 34,308 votes unseating UDA’s Kimani Ngunjiri who got 26,809 votes.
Due to her development oriented mind, Njoki has been christened ‘Mrembo Na Kazi’ by locals.
Though elected on Jubilee ticket, Njoki has shown interest in working closely with Kenya Kwanza government for the development of her constituents.
