Njoro Member of Parliament Charity Kathambi has called on youth to rally behind the Kenya Kwanza government agenda of transformation.
Speaking on Saturday when she awarded Njoro Constituency sports kits to various teams at Davison Primary School in Kihingo ward, Kathambi noted that young people are key component in development agenda.
She reiterated her commitment of bringing together young people in Njoro constituency towards peace and cohesion agenda.
At the same time, the lawmaker recalled how young people in Njoro in 2022 general elections shun divisive politics and chose the way of peace.
This, she noted was a plus to the cosmopolitan constituency that saw National Cohesion and Integration Commission recognize the constituency as one of the peaceful ones.
“As I thank my youth in this constituency for choosing peace and cohesion, I also urge you to support the President’s agenda of transformation in various capacities that you can,” she said.
She revealed that the NG-CDF program dubbed ‘Youth for Sports’ will be used help young people realize their capacities in various areas.
According to her, this is a program that will also nurture youth to be peace ambassadors not only in Njoro but Kenya as a whole.
“This year 2024 I chose to meet youth from all the wards so that we can share and see how we can use sports to enlighten ourselves and ensure more peace ambassadors,” she said.
In addition, the program shall be used as a platform for young people to help find solutions to climate change.
Kathambi stated that her office will work closely with youth groups, women and men, religious leaders and organizations as well as local administrators towards supporting the President’s agenda on tree planting towards conservation and mitigation of climate change challenges.
“We know very well that Climate change has not only affected our country but global issue. The reason to why as Njoro constituency we want to play our part and bring young people on board,” said the lawmaker.
Kathambi, at the same time challenged youth to start thinking about personal empowerment.
On the issue of illicit brew, drugs and substance abuse, she pointed out that the sports program will go a long way in addressing the same by ensuring young people are kept engaged.
She noted that illicit brew has been a menace among young people.
However, she was quick to commend local administrators among them chiefs for the strides made in wiping out illicit brew in Njoro.
While issuing the sports kits to various teams, Kathambi assured that moving forward it will now be an annual event.
She called on young people to make good use of the opportunities and avert being idle on social media platforms I engaging in irrelevant discussions.
“Discipline is key and we must change our mindset moving forward this year. We shall have our tournament as constituency where every time we hold such we shall increase the monetary awards,” she assured.
According to law, 2% of the National Government-Constituency Development Fund is to be used for sporting activities across the Constituency.
