Nakuru County assembly has passed a motion on recognition of shamba system farmers to benefit from free fertilizers.
The motion was sponsored by Ndundori MCA Michael Machembu and is aimed at supporting genuine farmers who work in the forest areas.
The fact that 60 percent of farmers in Bahati are from Dundori Forest area is what prompted the MCA to come up with the motion.
“The farmers have been going through a lot due to lack of title deeds and this has seen them miss subsidized inputs offered by the government” he said.
Machembu who addressed media at the county assembly stated that with the motion in place the challenges will be addressed.
The agricultural officers will now reach out to the farmers within the forest areas.
He added that the support to such farmers will also help boost economy of Nakuru County.
The motion was supported by the assembly and passed.
Peter Njoroge-Chairman Community Forest Association lauded the MCA for coming up with the same.
“The motion will support us as farmers in Dundori in terms of fertilizer and other farm inputs” said Njoroge.
