MCA questions county governments delay in supplying sanitizers

The County Government of Nakuru has been challenged to ensure adequate and constant supply of sanitizers in all of its health facilities as a way of combating the spread of coronavirus.

Lake view ward Member of county assembly Karanja Mburu said this when he partnered with Mashwa breweries to donate 500 liters of ethanol to the Naivasha sub-county hospital.

Mburu said since health is a devolved function, it is incumbent upon the county government o ensure faster procurement of the essential chemical to enable health workers to work effectively.

He wondered how the county government expected health workers to exercise and observe high hygiene standards within their facilities with the absence of sanitizers.

The MCA wondered why it was taking the county government of Nakuru too long to procure sanitizers something he said is putting health workers and patients at risk.

“The county government of Nakuru must rise to the occasion and do what it is supposed to because as we speak there facilities that are operating without cleaning detergents and sanitizers,” he said.

Nurses at the Nakuru West hospital had last week threatened to down their tools after the county failed to avail sanitizers to the facility

Mashwa breweries is a homegrown company based in Naivasha town.

Mburu appealed to more companies to support the government in this fight against COVID-19.
