MCA Duale wants Bodaboda operators protected from harrasment

A Nakuru County Assembly member now wants Bodaboda operators protected from harrasment by law enforcers.

Nominated MCA Hassan Duale has sought a statement on the same from Chairperson Sectoral Committee on Finance.

According to the vocal UDA MCA, there has been escalating incidents of harrasment and disorder involving Bodaboda operators in Nakuru County.

“Pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 47(2)(c), I hereby request for a statement from the Chairperson of the Sectoral Committee on Finance concerning escalating incidents of harassment and disorder involving boda boda operators in Nakuru County,” he stated.

Duale adds that there have been persistent and credible reports, now in the public domain, indicating that boda boda operators-who are duly registered and hold valid motorcycle stickers issued by their respective Sub-Counties within Nakuru County—are being unfairly targeted by Enforcement officers dressed in civilian clothes while operating or parking within the Nakuru Central Business District.

The MCA pointed out that the boda boda sector has become a pillar of economy, creating jobs and sustaining families.

“I am deeply concerned by reports of harassment and misconduct against riders in Nakuru Town East, Nakuru Town West, Bahati, and Naivasha Sub counties,” he said.

A response on the same is expected within 7 days according to Nakuru County Assembly Standing Orders.
